Last day on Isla de Pascua

So no car but still another day at the island. J  who thought that he enjoyed more chill times during traveling felt like we overstayed one day (!). I agreed although I think this chill day was quite good for us. It also gave us time to explore a bit of Hanga Roa a bit more and the most exciting part - see sea turtles!

We started out at the little man made beach where I had some more swimming. Mostly stone here but a little, little bit of sand at some places. A collared dog stayed there with us and all other people the whole day (we returned at the afternoon and he was still there). Maybe he was owned by one of the staff from the restaurant nearby. People here seem to be quite relaxed with their dogs, they let them roam around freely.

We stayed at the corner to the left

When getting up from the water we had ice cream and I thought I saw something in the water. After a while I realized it was turtles very close (not at the swimming area) to shore! So amazing! We saw some different coloured ones feasting on seaweed. Later on we learned 7 species of turtles come to the island, all endangered and especially two of them. We saw two species, green turtles and hawksbill turtles. So cool! And cute! I love turtles.

Turtle!

More turtles

When we felt we had enough sun (yes today much more sun) we strolled around different shops, a park with a gym and had lunch at a really good place. Quite healthy too. Haka Honu.

Returning to the beach again at the afternoon I had to watch out for the Christmas candy intoxicated boys in the water. "Accidently" splashing water or little rocks on me. They got better when I started pointing out fish for them though, splashing at the fish instead trying to scare it. Kids. I was surprised to see quite colorful fishes since I read it wasn't too much marine life (fish) to see if diving here. More clear water with good vision and corals.

It got a bit late before we got out to dinner and we wandered around some places before deciding where to eat. There was a soccer game on a big field at the same time and runner competing in a big race that we didn't know the length of. Considering all this going on we were surprised to see many resgaurnts closing early. We got a spot at one where they closed for other customers 5 minutes later. Regular overpriced food so no high scores this evening but we already had our top experience this day with the turtles :-)

Buenas noches,
S
